SAN JOSE, California and BERLIN, Germany – Nov. 9, 2010 — Wyse Technology, the global leader in cloud client computing, today featured its support for RDP 7.1 with Microsoft RemoteFX at Microsoft Tech Ed Europe 2010.

RemoteFX from Microsoft enhances the remote desktop experience for users that connect to virtual and session-based desktops and applications over a network. With RemoteFX, users will be able to leverage server resources for high fidelity graphics and audio on their virtual workspace from a broad range of client devices including very simple, low-cost thin client devices.

Microsoft RemoteFX will be supported on Wyse thin clients based on Wyse-enhanced Windows Embedded Standard 7 and Windows Embedded Standard 2009, as well as the upcoming Windows Embedded Compact 7 platform, enabling a rich experience for end users.  The support of Wyse devices for RemoteFX helps to increase worker efficiency by quickly and securely connecting remote workers with the applications they need through a simple Web connection.  These workers will have an immersive remote desktop experience, with improved manageability, security, and reduced energy consumption.

Wyse thin clients based on Windows Embedded Standard 7 deliver the power, familiarity and reliability of the popular Windows 7 operating system with support for Microsoft SCCM-based management and the latest RDP 7 technologies, in a virtual desktop and cloud computing ready appliance.

Wyse is also adding support for Microsoft RDP 7 on its popular Wyse ThinOS based thin clients, with the availability of Wyse ThinOS 7 software.  ThinOS 7 includes new rich multimedia, bi-directional audio and true multi-display features.  Wyse ThinOS is the only purpose-built advanced thin client operating system with a unique and unpublished API, delivering optimized performance and manageability and built-in protection from viruses, malicious software and malware.

“With the Wyse support for RDP 7.1 with Microsoft RemoteFX, customers will benefit from a high fidelity, rich media experience while maintaining the power, manageability and data security benefits of a VDI environment across multiple client solutions devices,” said Param Desai, Director, Product Management at Wyse Technology.  “Microsoft partners now have access to end virtual desktop computing solutions by leveraging Wyse’s RDP-ready offerings.”

“As organizations plan to deploy a centralized computing architecture with virtualized or session-based desktops, IT professionals want to deliver a premium user experience to connected workers,” said Manlio Vecchiet, director of product management at Microsoft Corp.  “Microsoft RemoteFX will allow remote workers to access any type of application or screen content, including rich media and 3D applications, using different types of devices. We are very pleased to partner with Wyse to offer customer solutions today that increase the flexibility and user experience of a centralized desktop environment.”

According to independent research firm, Forrester Research, Inc.: “Beginning in 2010 but flourishing over the long term, the ‘corporate desktop’ will no longer be a physical machine but a virtual image that users will access from whatever device is most convenient at that time in that particular location. And users will be able to complete all of their activities (work and personal) from the same device without security compromises.” This report also states, “Looking ahead, Forrester predicts broader, industrywide adoption in 2010 as IT managers increasingly view client virtualization as the future of the corporate PC.”
