Leading European Law Firm Refines Cloud Migration Strategy with Virtustream’s Advisor
London—3 August, 2011— Virtustream, Inc., a leading provider of cloud services and next generation infrastructure solutions, today announced that Field Fisher Waterhouse (FFW), one of Europe’s leading law firms, will migrate its IT infrastructure from an internal physical environment to an agile cloud computing environment via Virtustream’s enterprise cloud platform xStream. Leveraging xStream, a secure and resilient cloud platform, FFW expects energy and cost savings as well as increased business continuity and disaster recovery.
FFW enlisted Virtustream’s Cloud Advisory Services team to analyze its existing infrastructure with Virtustream’s Advisor, a vendor agnostic cloud assessment tool. The Advisor generated a cloud usage model for FFW that assured the company of data security and availability in the cloud and provided a framework for a successful migration.
“At FFW, we’ve always believed that clever thinking can turn something uniform into something swift, agile and altogether more interesting, ” said Maurice Tunney, Head of IT Solutions, Field Fisher Waterhouse. “Virtustream’s detailed assessment of our IT infrastructure demonstrated the potential that migration to the cloud could have on our business. We look forward to working with Virtustream to enable us to reduce operating costs and continue to adopt new technology to better serve our clients.”
By consolidating several servers and migrating from a physical environment to an on‐premise cloud, over the next five years FFW expects to cut its power consumption by up to 70 percent and carbon footprint by more than 900 tons, and reduce server costs associated with renewals, hardware and maintenance. FFW will also realize improved business continuity as Virtustream’s xStream platform provides high availability and fault tolerance as a backbone for service continuity and automated data disaster recovery.
“Some organisations are still hesitant to fully embrace cloud computing noting security and reliability concerns, ” said Kevin Reid, CEO and CTO of Virtustream. “Virtustream offers a full spectrum of cloud infrastructure options to accommodate enterprise clients’ unique needs and has the expertise to transition organisations through the cloud adoption process. Taking Field Fisher Waterhouse through our Advisor assessment, we were able to determine that an on‐premise private cloud environment would deliver the most efficient cloud utilization while ensuring data security and disaster recovery.”
